Authoring Explained
Many people are not familiar with the Authoring process for DVD, so it's best to break it into two steps that must come before DVD manufacturing or DVD duplication.

Encoding - The process of encoding takes care of two important functions. (1) To ensure your edited video content will actually fit on a DVD, and (2) to make sure the video is in a format that can be read by standard consumer DVD players (on computer or on a DVD player that's hooked up to your television set).

Authoring - After the encoding has been taken care of it's time for Authoring. Through the use of Authoring software programs a variety of interactive features can be included which include:
  • Chapter points
  • Subtitles
  • Closed captioning
  • Transitions
  • and much more.
Off course the quantity and complexity of the features you may wish to add does affect the cost of the job, so this would definitely be something that is discussed during the quoting stage of the project. Lastly, the Authoring software will output the content in a format that will work with standard DVD players.
